fed up with bending down to service bike?

Post by mercalia »

Maplins have a much reduced price these step/stools £8.

I have had one now for some months and found it useful when have to service my bike and don't have a proper stand. Is really a small step but also useful as a stool to sit on- if like me you are tall & bending down a strain can use it as a support to get to the ground and then sit on it to service the bike. Could be useful for other ground actions. It is very light but quite sturdy, I am thinking it might be useful to take camping also as better than sitting on the ground and is stable.

For anyone who repairs their own bikes a proper work stand is a very good investment. When I didn't have one I always found my back suffered, and I sometimes missed an item that needed attention.

Work stand + stool. And the turbo for working on handlebars - the most mine ever gets used.

I have one of these workstands from EBC.

Not amazing quality but OK for occasional use.

After I bought a work stand and decent tools I have been requested to service bikes from friends. I only charge for the parts. Am I being taken advantage of? Actually I don't mind, if it keeps them cycling that's all to the good

Lidl had this in one of their bike sales just over a year ago. If I remember correctly it was slightly cheaper (the 5%?) and has served me well.

I've got the Edinburgh bikes version of the workstand and it's helped my back no end.
Really good value in the twice-yearly sale.

However, thanks for the heads up on the Maplins stool. I've ordered one as it'll help with those awkward DIY jobs around the house; me being on the vertically-challenged side.

cheers, fausto..
