Okay, now here's a question: Which is the best helmet out there? By best i mean safest, coolest (as in cooling) and functional. I currently have a Giro Havoc and the time has come for a change. I've looked at the Limar Pro-104 and the Specialised S-works 2D as possible contenders. Money is not a problem, well it is, but not when it comes to helmets, as I think you can't skimp when it comes to safety. I mainly do commuting and road riding.
Any one any ideas? ....answers on a postcard..............!

Darth Vader had quite a good one.

Snell certification is still the toughest to pass, and also uses "off the shelf" helmets.

If you can get one that fits, go for a Snell certified helmet.

Seriously though,its a tough one is this coz unless you've repeatedly fallen on the bonce(and been saved any serious harm)its hard to tell.
I've been using Met helmets for the past oh let me see,10+years and I find them quite good, fitwise and coolwise(as in keeping my head reletively cool,them being made from polystyrene an all and not man!).
The latest one I have (called Sfero I think)also has insect netting in the front vents, which when one is folicley(sp?) challenge helps stop them walking about on my head which can tickle a bit.

PS,I must warn you Beaky that this seemingly inoccent and harmless question could spark yet another helmet thread (as in pros and con of wearing one) which I hope it doesn't as the last 2000 page debate was inconclusive.

Do Shimano and Campag make helmets?...........

up until recently i've been ardently anti-helmet but bought myself a specialized decibel in july (actually in a bid to be more trendy now that the pros have to wear them) and it is really comfortable and cool (tempreture), i would recommend it. mine was £100 by the way.

Cunobelin is right - the Snell standard is best. The other thing to bear in mind is fit. Different manufacturers suit different shape heads e.g. I have a narrow head and Specialized and Rudy project helmets fit well, Bell don't at all. If you want the helmet for protection then it must fit well so try various brands to find those that fit best - you may find your choice will be a lot more restricted.

Well I made my purchase, though I have to say looks did play a big part. Ordered a Catlike Whisper they look fab! but a tad pricey

I thought that it may be a bit ambiguous as I'm an overweight forty something. Went for carbon and silver, can't wait, hopefully it will arrive today! Ooooooooo it's just like Christmas.....!
