Is there a Nidd saddle that's equivalent to a Brooks B17.

Yes, Nidd is the closest to a B17 in Spa's own brand models. Happy with mine :D .

They are much harder than a B17 though and don't break in for a long time so aren't really comparable except in being pretty close is terms of dimensions.

The leather used is thicker than that used in the B17 it is true...however if the tension is reduced when new this will allow the leather to have more flexibility and the tension can then be increased after a while.

Manythanks. Nice saddles do appear to be a cheaper option than a Brooks.

Its not just thicker leather - it has fabric laminated to the underside. I think that it is the fabric which makes them so resistant to changing shape.
I actually tried to help things along by dampening the leather. Didn't work!
Still, when we are used to each other, the partnership should last for ages... :D

Many years ago the brooks-type leather saddles often had a fabric underside. There were also a lot of manufacturers all making slightly different models. Nice to see a competitor to B.
Hate to say it as Im a big fan of buying stuff made in the country one lives in, but Brooks are well overpriced and deserve to be undercut. the Nidd, for examplel is half the price of a B17, and arguable better made with higher-spec parts (leather, cro-mo metalwork...)
