Touring magazine/monthlies?

Post by meejozzz »

I've subscribed to most of the cycling press over the last 20 years or so - various mtb mags have come and gone and now I'm reading Cycling Active and of course the CTC mag - I pick up various publications from time to time.

My cycling style has shifted more to touring bikes and cyclo-camping. Does anyone know of either a print magazine (I'm a bit old skool) or failing that, some online publication that might satisfy my appetite? Maybe just some good websites?

Cheers.

There aren't many print titles out there. Cycling Active used to be OK but has now explicitly changed to appeal to the sportive market. The CTC mag is my current favourite but I have no idea how long that will continue in this form. Online you have more choice https://www.pannier.cc/ or http://bicycletimesmag.com/ are worth a look.

(I agree in that I also prefer print but ...) excellent online magazine http://www.bicycletraveler.bicyclingaroundtheworld.nl. At least "online" in that it is a PDF you download to whatever device and then read offline (but on some sort of computer/tablet).

Free and "occasional" in that new editions happen every now and again. Give them your e-mail address and they e-mail you when a new edition comes out. Definate focus on touring.

Thanks guys. Just what I was looking for. And yes geocycle, you're right about Cycle Active, it's gone all Sportive and energy bars - a bit of a no-no for me as I'm more steel frames and pannier racks rather than new fangled carbon....[emoji848]

Yes it is disappointing as there are plenty of mags aimed at that market already. I guess it's an advertising revenue thing as steel and cotton duck don't need replacing too often!

I subscribe to a great American publication called "Adventure Cyclist" which is the house magazine of the Adventure Cycling Association. It is totally about touring and although mainly concerned with the USA, also features tours across the world. It is well laid out (no in your face graphics for the sake of them) and is very well written.

Bicycle Quarterly, a fine colonial magazine from lower Canada.

Good touring articles, on short 2-4 touring rides
along articles on why old French rubbish is better than
modern rubbish.
