I saved a link from the Independent from about 6 years ago which was a trainer where the software reproduced climbs such as Mont Ventoux and also had an image on a screen of the climb. I am thinking about getting a turbo trainer and i've found the link , but I can only get a photo without any description, so I can't tell what it is.
It's probably been superseded 6 years later. Does anyone know what it is or whether there is anything available now to do this?

It's a Tacx, we have one and it has a variety of stuff it can do; set your own training programmes, so you can get it to do intervals of varying lengths, with varying percentage slopes, or set parameters such what heart rate range you wish to stay in and this can be monitored with the intensity increasing or decreasing appropriately.
You can download a favourite route (or a route someone else has done) from Strava / Garmin and load it to the programme, you can then have a gps / street view of the route as you ride it and the brake unit will add intensity or remove it as the road dicatates.
You can purchase films and load them to the programme and ride behind some of the pros on their training routes, either in the alps, mallorca, or (my favourite) a route with Vos and Van vliet in the low country.... tbh i find the intensity that the brake unit kicks in for some of the climbs is a bit hefty for me.
You need a decent laptop / computer and an internet connection. But a shop such as Evans who will have a range of such trainers will be able advise.

My son has a similar one called a B-Kool. Connects to the internet and mimics the characteristics of a ride. You can even re-do one of your own rides, recorded on a Garmin and uploaded. You can also ride with other people in cyberspace and even race against them, if you wish. It was about £400.
