I'm after a bit more set back on the tandem so am looking for a 27mm seatpost with a fair bit of setback. Anyone know of anything off hand which may be of use? Would go down the Velo Orange post but it only comes in 27.2mm.

These experiences of my own may help.

In 1981 I had a 27.00mm seatpin - it was Campag Record that one of my LBSs had surplus and couldn't sell, so I'd not been able to resist a Campag for a bit less than half price. I inserted a strip of takeaway alu tray between the seatpin and the inside of the tube. It was 531 tubing and 27.2mm. I did have to wedge the seat-lug open a bit to get the ensemble into the tube, but it stayed there in my frame for over 20 years. All was well.

On another frame, about three years ago, I couldn't get my Brooks saddle far enough back, but replacement with a Spa saddle solved the problem. If your saddle is a Brooks you may be aware that Brooks saddles - comfy as they are - are notorious for not having sufficient fore-and-aft adjustment.

I have had a Velo-Orange 'Gran Cru' seatpin for a few years and it solved just this problem for me on a frame where the seat-tube was too steep.

However, there has been a thread on this Forum questioning whether the current and redesigned VO seatpin is going to be reliable. It seems that there is another seatpin, which appears as though it could be identical with the original VO 'Gran Cru' but under a different brand name........it may be worth looking into that before spending the money.

You may find it if you click on this :

How much is a fair bit? This seatpost from Rose Bikes has "approx 26mm" setback and comes in 27.0mm diameter. I've had one on my winter road bike for a couple of years and it's been fine apart from the fact that the garish "Xtreme" logo starts flaking off as soon as you look at it. (You may not consider that a drawback, of course.)

I have a Campag at that size I would pass on for a little bit less than usual eBay prices. Compared to modern pillars they are short because we rode larger frames or non compact frames, so you might decide it is not suitable. PM if interested.

I'm after 11.5cm of set back in total from BB, currently I have a san marco rolls on there but it doesnt go back far enough by around 4.5cm. A different saddle and a different post shoudl hopefully sort it.

Those Holdsworth posts look great, may get one for another bike. They won't work for the tandem though as I need a 27mm, may have to be 'Xtreme'!

I've used one of these vk adaptors on the recommendation of another forum member, I've had no bother with it.

Takes you back 4cm on your existing seatpost according to the blurb.

Get the frame seat tube reamed out to 27,2mm and that will give you more choice of seatposts.
