Missed yesterday ride due to shopping, and a ride this morning due to moans about fixing car
Out tonight so will run light down before ride (it goes 3hrs on full) as ride will be near 3hrs, strap a power pack to bars plugged into light.
Report later.
If light draws 1 Watt- 3.7v / 1 = 270 mA, therefore power pack has to supply an excess of 270 milliamps to charge battery in theory.
Power pack will supply less current as it too is consumed, on low will probably last longer?

you could do this on the bench also.
I seem to remember reading not a good idea to run lithium cells down to zero as they may not charge again?

Re: Lidl cycling gear week 23rd -29 March
Lithium-ion batteries do not like to run to zero, they develop cell memory and can be difficult to recharge.
Devices with embedded lithium batteries usually have a circuit that switches them off at a pre set level.
Which is also why they tend to stop dead rather than taper off.

I wonder if the lidl light is that sophisticated?

My experience is embedded lithium batteries are always protected .. if only to stop the wave of warranty claims ... my grandsons £15 radio controlled helicopters have shut off circuits.

It has a red light for low battery, so probably.

Hi,
Ok.
Light fully charged.
Turn on to high.
Plugged in power pack, 2600 mAh, output 5v at 1 amp, Lidl again.
Lasted four hours then the power pack will not charge any more.
Left light on then lasted 3 hrs 30 min.
Why the power pack only lasted four hours, probably something to do with protection circuit on power pack where the unit will not drain right down below a recommended volt level on battery.
So if you plug in external power it will use this first.
Not sure if the light was partially discharged, how it would work then?
Try tomorrow, had a eventful day

Yeah... I'm not exactly full of time this month, though - what bike mechanic time I've found has been taken up with repacking/adjusting wheel bearings, headset bearings and pedal bearings, as well as the freewheel replacement described on another topic. I'm sure I've fixed other bits too but I don't remember what. So thank you for testing it if you can.
The power pack will probably expect to supply USB which is theoretically 5v 1A and I think the shoddiest power pack I've got supplies 4.5v 500mA, so it should still be far in excess of 270mA. The question will be whether the internal electronics can effectively pass USB power straight through to the light - a casual test suggests it can (the light doesn't switch off when power is connected) but there's only one way to know for sure...

Found the mini pumps from Lidl A bit disappointing.
I would avoid all pumps from lidl and aldi.
And in truth i would suspect any cyclist on here who bought one of just collecting material, ie, entranced by an apparent bargain and buying stuff for the sake of it. Am aware that this might sound puritanical, but not really** as surely everyone on here already has a pump? ** another plug for the £1.15 7 per cent plus vintage cider. Bishop's finger etc. Also to be avoided, aldi shoes. My £20 ones pretty much fell apart. Recently paid £35 for some wonderful vibram soled mtb/touring boots in a polaris sale. I can see them lasting ten years.

Hi,
Yeh, 7hr 35 to be exact which of course - 3 hr 30 on high is repeatable with light alone.
Try today with partially discharged light.
I like the light and its compact and light weight, we have come a long way.

like you surprised you didnt get more given the capacity of the external battery.
I wonder if such a lamp could be wired permanently to a hub dyno in place of a normal one then only switch the hub on when the battery needs rechargeing?
Now some one tell us how long on full power a more expensive light will give?

Hi,
Light 1300mAh = 3hrs 30 min on high (10rhs low)
Power pack 2600mAh = 4 hrs on high........the low setting might have been more efficient ?
The power pack is additional time to the internal battery.

at max light:
well test so far got 2 hrs and 35 mins before the poundlander ( £1 - 1200mah ) started flashing and stopped; not bad for £1? The box said up to 2 hrs depending on use. This looks like a rather thick index finger
now running the lights battery
as other people 3.5 hrs
so with the £1 power bank from, Poundlander I get 6 hours at max brightness. not bad eh?
