are you going to get that "apparently" removable battery light mercalia and compare it to to the fixed battery version which I think you bought?

If so I'd be interested in your views.

The latest cycling stuff goes on sale tomorrow I think.

I'll certainly take a look. I think the best buy so far was the small 1200mah power bank ( for chargeing up mobile phones etc ) fom my local poundlander store for £1 - gave the lidl light an extra 2.5 hrs light at max brightness. its about the size of a mans index finger in lenght and thickness so dont weight much and easy to put any where

Hi,
Further test on the Lidl 1300 mAh front light.

Ran the light down till red indicator but light still bright on high.
Anyone ran the thing completely down :?:

Put on high.
Plugged in the 2600mAh power bank.
Green charging indicator now showing.
Ran for 2 hrs.
Turned off and unplugged power bank.
Went shopping in car.
Two hrs later plugged in power bank and light on high.
Now both green and red indicator showing on light.
Light is still bright.
2hrs 10 min still red indicator and power bank has switched off.

So if the light is part discharged and you plug in power bank, the light on high will use up the power bank and not charge the light battery.

Not sure if it was on a lower light setting what would happen.

Apart from the workstand (I had to try a couple of stores to get one but the second had plenty of stock) I was tempted to buy a pair of the £9.99 'waterproof roll top' panniers too (choice of colours and quite lite). I'll review once i've checked them out more fully.

lidl lights £6

well it does use batteries 4 AA. The rear light is the same as from the previous lithium set. Good news, the battery front lamp uses the same bracket as the smaller lithium but you have to push on all the way to get a click to secure it. The battery light is about an 1" longer

The pkt says the rear light will go for 16 hrs, 13 for the front ( at lowest?)

Lithium light 84 grms
battery with 4 AA 170 grms

The batteries supplied are Panasonic Industrial (!) - The make some really good batteries? dated 09/2021

The battery light use a similar led on the top of the reflector pointing down and the reflector is a bit bigger. It claims the same 40,20,10 lux and a max of13 hrs presumably on the lowest setting. I dont intend to waste 4 batteries testing it - you'll have to buy one you self. It feels very solid and no give in the case. The plastic seems quite thick

How do you put the batteries in? The front part ( up to the switch ) twists and comes apart from the battery compartment. Seems very secure.

seems to be a good durable light at a very cheap price.

Both the lidl lights seem very good value for general non specialist riding

Beam pattern
The beam pattern seems very similar but the battery light seems more concentrated whereas the lithium light diffuses the light a little more under the main beam

The rear light

though it is a single led it is very bright and the lens focuses it not only backwards but also sideways - so the beam is split into 3. Using a strap means it can be attached to many posts - I have attached mine to the frame seat post which is quite thick

K mark
The Lithium is K1239 the battery K1240 what does that mean?

I think i'll keep the lithium front light for intown and use the battery one when I go touring. by the way it is nicely shaped to use as a torch

lots of work stands at Streatham central lidls

Well mercalia, I weakened and bought the light.

I have no great need of another rear and standardise on cateye because of mounts, but that is no matter at this price.

The front? Agree that that it seems pretty well built and that it is a nice shape to hold as a torch.

Quite big compared to many modern lights but that is primarily because it uses four batteries.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it also comes in black so I got one of those as it seems to have a classier look to me.

Beam pattern? Now I'm no expert on these sort of issues at all but I did have the impression from using it on a walk (not ride) near my house that it does chuck the light around pretty widely. Had the impression that it might be more use for pointing at a burglar and giving him (or her) the feeling that they had nowhere to run rather than as a finely focussed bike light.

Cannot help but think you would annoy drivers if you aren't careful.

I think I will use it for night rides pointing down at the road with my Hope Vision 1 used as the main headlight beam.

I think it may be rather good for this and so excellent value.

One great surprise - it appears to fit and clip on securely to my many Smart Lunar light mounts that I have on all my bikes - in fact it seems to actually secure/clip onto the Lunar mounts better than the Lunar itself.

So very pleased. May even buy another for use in a separate place. Amazing that yiu can buy such a light for this price these days.

Also bought the gloves - usually avoid cheap gloves and haven't ridden with them yet but they seemed promising.

Cycling backpack - bought one - seems excellent - nice tough lightweight material, great value, also available in classy looking black. Only thing ihing it doesn't have is one/two of those nice zipped pockets on the waist straps on some bags for putting a coin or two or keys in. Oh and I unless I'm mistaken, no zipped pocket inside for a wallet. But other than that looks excellent for the money.

Somewhat mystified by the extra flap of material inside - thought at first it might be a pocket but doesn't seem to be.

So am well pleased.

mine has an external "pocket" which at first site looks very insecure, even to the extent of stuff dropping out of it by mistake, but you can pass the tightening straps across it for security. Haven't ridden with the bag yet but for short trips, which is all I will use it for, it looks excellent - in my view cycling bags are often one of those things that are often terribly overpriced - after all, they are all made in China aren't they?

I've run the lithium front light down completely in error (button probably got pushed in the bag). Connecting a 2100mAh 1A USB powerbank lit the green light and enabled the light to work immediately. I put it on low and cycled home. The light seemed to be part-charged because it kept working after the bank was disconnected.

They're the approval numbers. I thought there was a search somewhere but didn't find it when I looked just now. I'm pretty sure there was because I used it a few years ago to discover the actual manufacturer of some pedals I liked, rather than the branding.

Hi,
Although the rear light seems a bit mickey mouse, it does work ok and is bright enough, batts seem to last, chucked some rechargeables in.
Today when I got home I noticed that the rear on off button was red, so the low batt indicator seems to work, didn't know it had one.

Bought a cable lock @ £2.49 and 1.8 metres long, I have several already, goes through both wheels easy, that's a good price too.
Also forked out on some sun glasses, Orange lenses with cat 1.0 rating, yellow normally come with cat "0" or "1.0", orange might come with cat "0 / 1.0", Mmmmm seems that only Cat (Class) 0.0 is recommended for night riding, I currently use a Cat 0.0 faint yellow and that's OK.
Probable that any fixed tint is not recommended for night riding / driving.

I tend to use a yellow lens around london at night to save the fag of an extra pair of glasses. Tend to think they are ok in lit areas. Out in the country at night I use clear lenses of course.
