Col de Joux Plane. Last year the day after Froomey and co had gone over the top. Borrowed the bike from my son in law. Rises 1km in 11 km from the village of Samoens below.

I had to stop half way down on the return to give my hands a rest. They were cramping up from the continual braking. I've lost my descending nerve now that I have reached bus pass age. :(

Trump that.

Here I was at the top of Mt Ventoux. No pic of bike- sorry, you'll just have to believe I rode it up there!

As for the highest bike - well, I've never seen one 'higher' than this:

I camped about 300ft below the pass the previous night. Could notice the thin air. Breathing hard moving boulders from my tent in the morning

The highest I've been on a bike was Pike's Peak in Colorado, 14,110 feet. I had to walk some of it; some sections were still gravel when I went up it. I don't have any pictures, though. The highest point I have a picture of is

Mine's the bike in front of the lorry's front wheel.
I leave it to you to recognise the location (highest so far)
I have been higher on my bike, but all the photos are of other people's bikes.

Can you cycle up to there, or did you hitch a lift on the truck?

Rode there, apart from the aeroplane taking me to the main airport, about 380 miles back.
The lorry (obligatory) carried the tents and stuff.

stopped for a breather (much required) on the way

This was featured on Michael Portillos Great american railway journeys recently. I've added it to my bucket list to do it on the cog railway. :D

Tiefenbachgletscher - all 2805m of it - last August. (climb starts @ 1400m in Sölden and is only 13km but of course you climb 40km to get to Sölden!) :D

The hardest part was seeing where I was going through the 2km tunnel that takes you to the summit.

Will try to find a pic later.
Convention? what's that then?

Weißseegletscher, 2006: 2750 metres I think. Climb started at 800 metres. The last 1000 metres were covered in ~10 km.

One bloke we had along broke a brake cable at the start of the climb. He was lucky it happened then - the descent was hair-raising.

I see Google Maps is calling it the Kaunertaler Gletscher these days. Funny that.
Have we got time for another cuppa?
