Charity bike shop . . . . interested?

Post by robgul »

If you know your way around bikes do you have some time to volunteer at a charity bike shop?

The national charity, Cyclists fighting Cancer operates three Charity Bike Shops : unwanted bikes are donated, they are checked over and repaired as necessary and sold through the shops - the vast majority are mid-range but we see everything from balance bikes through to well-specified carbon road bikes . . . as well as unwanted parts and accessories.

With the exception of the modest cost of consumables like cables, tubes and cleaning/lubrication products the shop sales revenues all go to the charity (and better still donors that are taxpayers can complete a Gift Aid form for CfC to claim tax back from HMRC)

Each of the shops (at Stratford-upon-Avon; Ditchling, near Brighton opened in June 2017; and Prestbury, Manchester opening early July 2017) relies on volunteer mechanics to work on the bikes in fully equipped workshops.

I've been volunteering (mechanic and shop sales) since September 2016 when the first shop opened and have found it to be great fun, and satisfying to put something back into cycling - for a great cause.

So - if you are interested to volunteer, or have a bike(s) to donate do please get in touch - either PM me or via the CfC website (we're especially keen to find some volunteers for Ditchling)

Err, it's "Ditchling near Brighton" as OP (just to the north of Brighton - where the infamous Beacon is!)

Great idea; I'd be happy to help out but they're all over 250 miles away from me, sorry!
