Which new crankset?

Post by climo »

I need to stay with Shimano but I have no idea which model range to go for.
I would like a 9 speed 50/39/30 triple or similar. I'd also consider a 54/38 double assuming the front mech would work. Mid price, I guess up to £125, more if it's a stellar deal. Black if possible. Good used considered.
Compatible front & rear mech also needed, short or medium cage on the rear. Bottom bracket 68mm english threaded.

I cant see why such a restriction would apply unless you have a restriction from your supplier.
My FSA MegaExo, for example, is a direct swap for any Shimano road Hollowtech 2 crankset.
It is also a 50-39-30 when supplied.

The old Tiagra 4503 with a UN55 bottom bracket used to be a great value for money answer to your question but they are no longer around.

You're right. I should have said I'd prefer to stay with Shimano. If only because it's the top selling brand.

Sora is the current Shimano 9 speed.
