To answer the first question, whether synthetic gloves go wiffy quicker than the old-fashioned leather and crochet ones, my answer is yes they do. Especially, as Si said, in the rain. Except that the ones I've linked to above are also synthetic; that's not a real leather palm. So maybe it's the crochet back that makes the difference? Logically you'd think it's the palm that sweats most though.
