Raleigh pioneer deluxe

I am new to bike's have just got a Raleigh pioneer deluxe men's 10 speed, can anyone point me in the right direction for spare parts I know nothing about bike's so in English please .

I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my EVA-L09 using hovercraft full of eels.

Welcome to the forum.

As you describe your Pioneer as ten speed I expect it is an early-mid 90's model. Parts shouldn't be hard to come by from local bike shops (LBS), online, ebay, etc. If you buy from a LBS you can also ask them to fit parts, expect labour charges. You may wish to learn some basic bike maintenance, some parts will need specialist tools.

If you can post a few pics of the bike and any parts you feel you need spares or replacements for I'm sure you'll get further replies and detailed information. Whilst you want to keep the discussion in plain English, knowing the right names for parts will help you to track them down either online or in the real world.

With it being a Raleigh, some of the parts such as the headset and the bottom bracket might be an odd size, but pretty much everything else is standard size. Wheels will be 700c, with probably low end Shimano kit on it. Own brand chainset, handlebars and stem.
My wife used to have a man's Pioneer, which did did sterling service until my son managed to crack the frame on his paper round. It supposedly had a lifetime guarantee, but I considered that we'd had our money's worth out of it, so didn't bother to claim.

Ours had a freewheel rather than a cassette wheel, but it was still on its original wheels when we scrapped it. Ours also had twist grip gears, and cantilever brakes.

Not on a 90's Pioneer, BSC threading throughout.

Thanks everyone its in good condition ,its been in storage for years no rips or scratches at all not even on the peddles , but the chain and cassette are a bit rusty and a few nuts on the brakes , I was just wondering how easy replacement parts where to come by if I needed them its a cracking bike ideal for my needs .

The "cassette" will be a freewheel.

I'd probably look to change tyres that are twenty+ years old, even if they appear relatively unworn. If nothing else puncture-proofing technology has moved on substantially over that time.

I picked up a Pioneer for £10 during the summer, I have stopped riding my Norco frankenbike, the only fly in the ointment is braking, which is hilarious, I fitted an alloy front rim from the pile and some rubber brake blocks, but its still dire! I serviced BB and head races, oiled everything else and it rides a treat, the threads appear to be modern metric on the brakes .

BITD there were Pioneers with cantis and Pioneers with calipers. I'd expect the former to offer some scope for improvement by adjustment to set up.

there were gazillions of different pioneer models with steel frames. IIRC the nicest ones had 501 tubes, cantis, and actually rode pretty well. If you come across one of these framesets it is worth fitting newer, better parts (e.g. a cassette hub etc) as the old ones wear out. Not super-light or anything, but nice to ride; much, much nicer than most modern hybrids...

Mine is 18/30 steel, made in Nottingham, caliper brakes, with bendy plastic levers, indexed shimano ten speed with thumb shifters, proper mudguards and a brilliant plastic disc on the chainwheel that obviates the need for cycle clips, the frame paint needs a touch up, I might have a weinmann centrepull brake in the bits box that might improve braking, otherwise it rides really well, I might even sell the Norco to a Hipster!

Ours was a Pioneer Jaguar - 18 speed, canti brakes and a 501 frame. Originally bought for my wife but used by various family members over the years. I used to use it as a shopping and pub bike.

Came to this as I've just been looking through old bike catalogues looking for my raleigh one. The bike I purchased from it was a pioneer trail alivio 21spd, 1997 model. I use it as a turbo bike and it's in excellent condition but did have a former life on the road. Curiosity has made me measure certain distances as what caught my attention was the tyre clearance on front fork. It has a 35mm tyre in situ with probably a 10mm on each side clearance plus perhaps 15mm above. It looks as though it will accommodate perhaps a 42mm with guard, the rear definitely would.

The frame is a 21"( they were in those days ), chainstays 435mm and front centre 650mm. That again gives good clearance for a bigger tyre plus guard( from toe overlap perspective ). The wheelbase is a nice 1060mm, it's a hybrid but close to a tourer in geometry. It's built around a 1 inch fork and canti brakes but in reality I feel it could make a very good "monstercross"/adventure drop bar, barcon style bike. It seems to have good clearances for such. Anyone finding one of these for a few tens of pounds could make a nice project from it.
