Probably best kept for beautifully slim equestrian women who brighten any cycle ride more than any mamils could ever do.

* Pop *

But if you're colin firth's double you might cheer some cycling belles up.

I've some old ones from when I worked with horses which I've cut the legs off just above the knee.
They now make long shorts which nothing can fly up, that's important when on a recumbent ..... :shock:

Those aren't jodhpurs, though, they're knee breeches or 'breeks'. Years ago I used to wear them regularly for cycling as I found them very practical - smart, less drag on the kneecap and could be adjusted for ventilation. Jodhpurs look as if they'd be rather too tight over the knees and maybe rather hot and sweaty, too. Maybe Flinders will chip in with her view, as I think she rides horses as well as bikes.

I'm not sure about jodhpurs, but Mini V sometimes cycles in horse riding trousers. They are built with a similar lack of seams in the crotch, so work well from that perspective. They are heavier material, and mostly cotton, so they aren't comfortable in wet weather.

The better quality ones tend to have grippier material on the backside but they are not really padded like cycling shorts. The knees on jodhpurs are not really designed for constant movement. The patches introduce additional material and seams that could be irritating if the jodhpurs were on the tight side.

I used to cycle 20-30 miles a day in jods and wellies/long boots for over 10 years starting mid 80's.
The only ones which I ever found restrictive on the knee where old cotton twill ones.
Modern fabrics now have enough stretch that it's not an issue.
