Touch Up Paint...Nail Polish?

Postby NATURAL ANKLING » 21 Dec 2017, 1:18am

Hi,
Anyone ever tried it, long lasting, or too pricey, bearing in mind that touch up is not that cheap if you can source correct colour?

I use auto touch up paint. Not too expensive and usually a wide range of colours. I used to use model paint, but there are fewer and fewer shops that sell models
I wish it were simple as riding a bike

Yeah I use nail polish. The stuff I have is enamel, the newer stuff may be acrylic, not sure if that really matters? IME, it's as hard wearing as the original paint and you can (carefully) T-Cut it back for a decent finish.

I've used nail polish in past. IMO, it will stay in place with less surface preparation. You still need to remove rust, first, though.

I also use auto touch up paint, at least on the frames I care about :)

I use nail polish very successfully. Available in every colour known to man. Or woman. Or non gender based nail varnish users in general ..... i wheeled my bike into Boots in Parkgate Rotherham and a lady assistant helped me match up the pearlescent white needed for my frame....
It's just like that, it's just the way it is.

lady assistant helped me match up the
+1. I needed a sparkly blue for the Thorn Tandem and could find no paint. Having chosen the varnish the assistant even let me walk out of the store to colour match it in daylight. Boots in High Street Cosham.
A bargain as it lasted until I no longer had the machine and probably long beyond it.

I tried it on a Paul Hewitt Cheviot audax about 5 years ago. The colour match from the nail polish was uncannily spot-on.
Great for small nicks on chainstays and forks.
