How big will the lift be when the Tyne pedestrian/cycle tunnel reopens?

Post by GarethF »

It's supposed to reopen in the Spring. I haven't been for years, but the last time I found the lift out of order and had to carry the bike down the stairs. I'd really like to go through with the tandem, but clearly taking that down the stairs would be impractical. Anybody happen to know if the lift will be big, like on the tube and at Ikea?

What response did you get when asked authorities about finite re-opening date?
Certainly cheaper than the ferry!

The website still just says Spring 2018. Apparently the refurbishment which began several years ago has taken substantially longer than originally planned due to the unexpected extent of asbestos requiring specialist attention.

According to this http://www.bridgesonthetyne.co.uk/tyneped.html it'll be May this year. As an add on hours later ;) I'm looking forward to going through it after almost 40 years.
