Thanks Samuel
It may actually make that difference and thanks for rechecking and letting me know. Still considering a longer shed if I can fit it.

re rusty parts; chains are consumables anyway and rusty axles etc are likely to be cosmetic rather than functional defects.

Stuff goes rusty inside sheds for two main reasons

1) you can get condensation on cold bike parts

2) bikes that are ridden in the winter get covered in salt spray; this can rust anything almost regardless of storage conditions but damper is definitely worse.

Just chucking a blanket over a bike helps to keep condensation off but if the shed is insulated this is better still.

Bikes that are used regularly in all weathers need to be maintained anyway; this means cleaning and corrosion protection. Provided you do this the scope for corrosion in storage (any storage) is very greatly reduced.

cheers

Hi

Any particular oils that should be used? I have been using GT85 for normal everyday use.

As for sheds just get the biggest your site can take. None of mine have ever been big enough  Usually full within weeks.
It might fit in a 6' shed but it’ll probably be comfier in a 6' 6".

thats right & if you are married and have a tiff you can always sleep in it  or your partner can :?

Just make sure to replace the hinge screws on the door with some bolts and a locknut on the inside and some coach bolts into the frame.

Many years ago I used to sleep in the shed at the bottom of the garden.

The old woman living next door ( in a semi-detached house ) was suffering from ever worsening dementia.

During the night she would bang on the partition wall and start shouting.

Even moving to the furthest away bedroom, did not stop her from waking me up. I had to take refuge in the shed for a few months.

Eventually nature resolved the problem. Sheds can be extra useful.
