Shop recommendations - Sale/Altrincham

Post by ratherbeintobago »

A friend has asked me for a recommendation as he wants to buy a bike.

As he lives on the other side of the city, I’m a bit stuck as I don’t know any of the shops that side. Can anyone advise?

It's not quite Altrincham, but I use and would recommend Rick Green's in Handforth, which is at least the right side of Manchester.

Not all of us on this forum live in the south Manchester region. You live in the area, check them
out and let us know. We can only do so much for you. Good luck.

Take some time to evaluate them, try asking naive questions by mail, visit the shops and pretend to be interested in buying, see if they try to persuade you to upgrade to something more expensive
Most (?) of us on these fora have been cycling for decades and might be more knowledgeable than some cycle shop staff

I once worked in a cycle shop myself!

I don’t live in South Manchester either, and, with all due respect, responding to a request for recommendations with a list of shops I could’ve googled myself is, at best, unhelpful.

My colleague is new to cycling. I don’t think he’s going to want to have to critically evaluate any shop.
