Hello everybody.... Bought this Carlton-Rudje before some days in order to renovate it..
Really nice frame.. I have read many things in some sites but still I m not sure for the model.. By the serial number it seems to be a 1978 model.. Any help for the model.. genuine parts.. and every other information by the veterans.. would be great..!! Thanx..!!

Which Carlton model is this?
Re: Which Carlton model is this?
it looks to be a rudge badged Raleigh built bike from the 1970s alright. Models varied with territory, so the same bike with different badging would have been sold in other places. IIRC in the UK we got a bike that was very similar to this (with a chrome-plated frame) but with carlton badges. The weinmann brakes will have a date mark on the back of the calipers which will identify the year of their manufacture.
Yours looks like it is mostly original in terms of parts fitted. The frame is not made of any fancy tubing I think. IIRC these bikes have a 25.4mm seat pin. You just have to hope that your bottom bracket and headset are in good shape internally; most of these models use 26tpi threaded parts which are no longer easily sourced and in addition the bottom bracket shell may well be wider than is usual these days.
Chances are that with new cables, bearings overhauled, new tyres, maybe chain and freewheel, plus a good clean up you should have a nice bike.
The original tyres would have been 27 x 1-1/4" ones (ISO size 32-630). These tyres are no longer very commonplace but can still be bought. If you change to 700C wheels (622) be aware that the brakes don't always reach to the wheel rims.
cheers

Probably have more success on Retrobike forum - there's a Carlton guru on there!

Serial number is for a Nottingham made bike in January 1978. Are you in the USA? Looks like it would be an export model based on the Circuit or Stadium model.
