Running a B+M Cyo light upside down?
Hi, can anyone see any issues with running a Lumotec IQ Cyo upside down? Its due to mounting issues.
Thanks
Thanks

It won't be any good.
The beam pattern will be all wrong, with lots of light by your front wheel, dazzled motorists and not much up the road, or, if you tip it up, nothing close to the bike, dazzled motorists and well lit trees.
The IQ-X is usable below the mount, as the mount is on a ring that can be moved round the light, and there are upside down versions of the SON Edelux

What Andrew s said, plus it will be even less water resistant than it already would be the right way up (assuming you'd be using it with mudguards).

Proper cycle lamps have asymmetric beams like a cars dipped beam with a cutoff to prevent dazzle. They can only be used one way up. A torch has a symmetric beam and can be used any way round.

Could the bracket be modified so the light is the right way up?

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

Can't be first time for this problem; someone on this site will have sorted it!
Possible solution?
50+ years ago, for bikes without "lamp bracket boss" we fitted the lamp bracket
on front spindle.
If you do have lamp boss I have, somewhere among the post PBP spares, an adaptor to fit two lights on one boss
which would allow you to move light probably 2" out from fork?
Recently there was a version which fastenned on stem bolts in for sale section; cheap, £7 I think.
If I'd still been a real cyclist I would have bought it!

There must be a solution - any chance of posting a picture of the front end of the bike and describing what the mounting issue is? That way someone might come up with a (possibly elegant) solution.
Disclaimer: Treat what I say with caution and if possible, wait for someone with more knowledge and experience to contribute.

To use a Cyo, you've got to do something like this:
.
Note that the light itself is the right way up.
One of these brackets will allow the light to be a short distance below the handlebars

Re: Running a B+M Cyo light upside down?
Very interesting. Thank you.
I'd love to post a few photos but it seems more difficult than ever these days. There was a post about how to but I can't see it now.
I'm not sure about the beam pattern, but totally take you word for it. The light would be only about 18 inches from the ground which may make it worse for all I know. But together with the waterproofing it's clearly a bad idea.
If 18 inches above the ground isn't terrible I'll have to tinker a bit to make something. Plus look into the photos. Thanks

Lights designed to pass the German regulations are designed to optimize the beam above the wheel.
Re: Running a B+M Cyo light upside down?
B&M make a few mounts for their lights, probably one will work,

The trouble is, they're black - and only black.
