Recommendations for lycra cycling shorts with THIN padding

Post by Graham »

In the long-lost golden era I could easily buy shorts with a synthetic chamois insert 2-3mm thick.

Alas, my last set are falling to bits ( after a mere 20 years use ).

Where can I buy decent cycling shorts WITHOUT the mini surf board in the undercarriage area ?

Take a look at Triathlon shorts their shorts appear to have thin pads. To facilitate running I guess?

Check out Decathlon - they do shorts with a variety of different pads - if you've not looked inside modern shorts you may well be surprised by the changes!
Convention? what's that then?

Lidl recently had 3/4 length shorts with a thinnish pad for £7.50.

Polaris recently had a sale with 3/4 length shorts for a tenner.

Not a massively thick pad.

They might reduce them again if they still have stocks.

Being pedantic I presume 'recs' is some sort of shorthand for recommendations?

Decathlon? Have had some (far too thinly padded) stuff from there.

Check on Enduroa's web site. I've always been looking at the opposite end of the scale (i.e. wanting loads of padding) but Endura publish details of the padding in each of their different shorts, thickness, etc.

For anyone else suffering from Acute Surfboard Groin Intrusion*, I have to report that I have bought a couple of pairs of Endura Padded Liners and things are going well.
I use them in combination with unpadded or thinly padded longs.
When the weather gets a bit warmer I hope to buy some unpadded lycra running shorts to use with the liners.

Not exactly what the OP is looking for, but I've had good luck with the common "liner shorts" from Altura, to be used under baggy shorts. Thin enough, dry reasonably fast, cheap, has been a win-win for me.

Er, yes . . . that is exactly what I have ended up with - except that mine have Endura on the waistband.
