Heads Up- 26" Winter Tyres @ reasonable price

Post by SimonCelsa »

In readiness for winter & to keep the wheels rolling through the frosty mornings I recently received a pair of these from All Terrain Cycles:

https://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/schw ... r-mtb-tyre

Look pretty good at that price with free next day delivery.

Not much choice of sizes though!

Could have done with something like that this morning
Rain froze and my dark commute on single track roads was most unpleasant

yep; I was riding at about midnight last night and I thought it was going to freeze by morning even if it hadn't done so already.

cheers

Slow.

The Ice Spiker is an off road tyre. It's about the only thing that will cope with ice with an inch or two of snow on top, and will be better than anything else for freezing slush, but for dry tarmac with icy patches you would be better off with the Marathon Winter, or Winter (all Schwalbe)

I have recently ridden about 30 miles on tarmac with these tyres. They are actually for my daughter's paper round bike but I said I'd do her a favour and 'bed the studs in' for her!! Not sure it is really necessary but I recall reading it was recommended somewhere.

The ride was actually OK, obviously a little slower but I ran at quite low pressures (around 20psi) to ensure most of the spikes were in contact with the ground. The sound is quite impressive, like riding through deep gravel, certainly people can hear you coming, better than my winter marathons which are a bit wimpy in comparison.

I wouldn't do a 600k Audax on them though.

If we get as much snow as last winter then they will be worth the payout in money saved from taxis I had to shell out for.

Anyone know if these are easy enough to put on and take off?

These went on so easily I thought they might drop off when I lowered the pressure to bed in the studs!! They were OK though.

They are fitted to a cheap Decathlon front dyno hub no name rim, and a Ridley Vantage rear rim.
