Cycle to Work scheme (with an added bonus)

Post by RickH »

I don't know if this may be of interest to any folks.

The guys at Circe Cycles have been sharing details of the "Green Commute Initiative" (GCI) who are doing the Cycle to Work scheme without the £1000 limit (because they are also registered with the Financial Conduct Authority).
Green Commute Initiative wrote:Green Commute Initiative is a Social Enterprise with a vision to get commuters out of cars and onto any kind of bike, with the dual purpose of improving both the individual’s health and wellbeing, as well as reducing the environmental impact of pollution and congestion from cars. We do this through our cycle to work scheme.

They seem to have a good spread of places across the UK that will use GCI, including places (that I know of) that do more practical bikes - such as Circe & Practical Cycles (up in Blackpool).

Yep - we've been offering that for some time - it's attractive to micro-businesses as there is the tax advantage to the individual employee as well as low-ish cost finance for the employer from GCI for bikes above a certain value threshold.

On the regular Cycle to Work schemes most shops will be flexible with topping up for purchases above the £1,000 threshold - and be aware that the shop has to hand over 10% of the voucher value to the scheme operator (or 15% if it's a Halfords voucher) so discounts will be minimal.

They’re not meant to let you top it up mind as that messes up the ownership of the bike over the scheme period...

They seem to have thought it through if you read their stuff.
