Is it possible to cycle from Nottingham to Liverpool?

Hi lovely bike people

So me and the missus are planning a cycle trip to Liverpool from our base here in Nottingham. I've cycled along the canal/River Trent cycle path as far as Burton Upon Trent, now as far as I can tell on Google maps, in theory we could follow that same path all the way up to Liverpool, do any of you have any experience of this?
