Which Dual Tyre Pressure Gauge

Post by Witterings »

Has anybody got any recommendations for a dual Presta / Schrader tyre pressure gauge .... there's quite a few to choose from at different price points.

Whilst I don't want to spend money I don't need to, probably pretty much as the same as everybody my priorities are accuracy and ease of use ... especially when going from one valve type to the other.

I've put a few links below of some the one's I've found so far, any input on the good and the bad or any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

The first one, though can be had a fair bit cheaper if you buy direct from the east, where it is made. A giyo product.

If you dig around you will see a thread start from me where I recommended it.

One or two folk followed my recommendation and were I think well pleased.

I think I paid between £6 and £7 including postage.

Some of your possibles are terrible.

Just shows that paying more doesn't always get a better product.

I bought one off Ebay for £7 on Sweep's recommendation and it's spot on accurate comparing with two other gauges I own,one a Topeak digital gauge and the other on a Topeak JoeBlo track pump.
It really is a good bit of kit and rubber armoured too so if you drop it it comes to no harm :)

How readable is that in the 10-20psi range? Would like one that went to maybe 50psi.

Accuracy is a bit of a 'nothing' really compared to repeatability....... As long as you have the pressure you want (ie not too hard as to rattle your teeth, not too soft as to cause rim damage!) and the gauge gives a consistent, repeatable measure of this it doesn't really matter what the figure shows- it's just a number.

Unless you want to use the same gauge for cars as well and then it's very important as it affects both fuel consumption and also how the tyres wear.

I have had one of the Zefals for many years. It works well.

Yep, I got one similar/same as Sweep's at the same time.

I have had no problems. Pretty pleased with it.
As said, it is rugged enough for a bit of general droppage.

Although someone borrowed it and let all of their air out.
But I think that was user error as I have yet to manage that.
Holds the pressure for you to read. (I love that bit. I see that like a huge decadence).

It isn't THAT accurate to read for smaller increments.
I was playing with my MTB pressures and kinda wanted to do specific pressures.
( i did have in my mind a specific number)
But, as already said, I picked where to put it to and then repeated that.

for whatever reason it is usually advertised as 'presta only' but if you unscrew the fitting from a Schwalbe pressure gauge it works as a Schrader gauge as well.

dunno how well it bears up if you use it mainly for Schrader but for occasional Schrader use, it seem OK to me.

cheers

Maybe my technique was shot brucey but I had the same problem with that as the Topeak.

I sent it back.

with anything that has electronics inside it, it is pot luck pretty much. The second time I used mine, I dropped it in a puddle and promptly trod on it, just for good measure. To my great surprise it survived.

cheers
