New Hybird advice -

Post by novicecycler »

Hi all,

I'm new to cycling and really looking for a bike that will do for most things at present so looking at a hybrid (maybe I'll invest a 'decent' road bike at a later date) but I think it will mainly be used for bikes rides with the kids in parks and on paths. However I would like something that I can take on the road, with people with road bikes, occasionally. I know they will be able to leave me for dust but what can I get to give me the best chance of attempting to keep up, without losing the comfort for rides with the kids? I think there are a few hybrids with drop handlebars, would they really make a difference?

Budget of around £500 to £750.

I'd love some suggestions if anyone has any thoughts. My local bikes shop specialists in Trek and Specialized and another shop nearly in Giant. I prefer to support a local bike shop if possible.

Thank you.

Decathlon probably does not qualify as a LBS, however I would still check out a Triban 520 because it is good value, you have a choice of flat or dropped bars, a reasonable weight, comfy to ride if you fit decent tyres, good range of gears, can fit rack and mudguards...

Even if you don't like it you can compare if for value, features etc with what your LBS has.
