Barry Barron frames
Barry Barron frames
Hi, I'm looking for some help to track down some history about English framebuilder Barry Barron and a bike of Barry's that I have in Australia.
I know Barry built custom frames and some unique trikes etc, but would love any information about Barron bikes.
The bike I have was built for a gentleman named David Earth (his name is stamped on the bottom bracket). I'm guessing the bike was built in the mid-80s early 90s and has a gorgeous single seat stay, but I would appreciate any leads, suggestions, comments from anyone that can add to my limited knowledge of the bike. I purchased the bike in Australia in about 2008 from my next door neighbor, Mr Ron Kelly, who is the uncle of world champion track cyclist Shane Kelly, so it has a nice racing pedigree. Any help appreciated.

Re: Barry Barron frames
Barry Barron hand built my 531c framed touring bike in 85-86. lovely bike, still got it now.
They're still going and are just down the road from me.

Bit more info. Barron used to build steel frames, 531 and 753 for the time trial and racing scene around here, I know of 3 (my mates still have them) locally. They build tandems and trikes too for racing, I think Barry designed a kind of differential for trikes.

Double freewheel, like Longstaff. Some Barron history here - https://tricycleassociation.org.uk/hist ... es-barron/Greystoke wrote: I think Barry designed a kind of differential for trikes.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can track down the guy the frame was built for. I'd love to know a bit more about it.
Re: Barry Barron frames
My brother still has a Barron. I always thought they were more a local builder, so you might try David Earth, South Holland, Lincs. Worth a try.

Re: Barry Barron frames
My wife bought us (me) a pre-loved Barron tandem from a couple in Barton who could no longer ride it. Sadly, my wife and I have managed just a few hundred yards around the block - although I have an occasional stoker from time to time. Lovely ride. Some day we’ll make our way back over the Humber Bridge on it and find our way to Stow...
The phone contact details for Barry’s son Steve are there on the web. Maybe worth a call?

Thanks Keyboardmonkey, I'll see if I can make contact with Steve. I'll be over in England for a week later in the year, so might try and call into the shop!
Re: Barry Barron frames
Just seen this thread, I have a Barry Barron frame, the shop is still in Sturton. Barry no longer builds frames and I think his son runs the shop. I have a friend with a Barron trike.
Barry built frames for Ray Inkley Cycles (shop used to be in Lincoln), I knew Ray well in the 80s and 90s, and I co-sponsored the Lincoln Wheelers. Barron frames are quite unique (apart from being fine frames) in that Barry, as far as I'm aware, was Lincolnshire's only framebuilder.

Dunno how long Dave Yates has been where he is, but he's Lincolnshire based too, and has been for some time.

I know he's Lincolnshire based Brucey, but he moved here from the north east. Barry was building frames long before Dave Yates moved to his current (Coningsby) location.
