Uses for a dead D-lock.

Mrs gaz's D-Lock has expired. The mechanism was extremely reluctant to accept the cylinder key. Eventually it unlocked, the lightly used spare key broke on the way out.

A good spray around with WD40 later and something is clearly still wrong. Unsurprisingly the broken key won't open it at all, the usual one operates it reluctantly.

The last D-Lock that I retired became a ground anchor. What else can you do with a dead D-Lock?

Don't chuck it in the normal recycling bin - could damage the bin wagon. I'd have thought a visit to the metals recycling skip may be in order?

the steel in the straight parts of the 'U' makes for a good drift; comes with a slightly padded sleeve too!

cheers

Hi
Door stop?
Put it on a public bike rack with all of the others?
Declare your undying love to Mrs G and lock it to the Pont des Arts before throwing the key into the River Seine?
An art installation (link)

I've an old in the garage, hoping the key will turn up somewhere one day. Although it might be one of the ones that can be unlocked with a biro. Have moved house twice since the last time I had the key so maybe I should give up.

Fit it into a wall as an anchor to lock your bike to.

Pour some wet cement into a large plantpot and lower the D into it.
When the cement has gone off, take the lump out, and you have a good door-stop or a gate-stop.
If you have a very lively puppy, you can tie it to it and leave it in the garden on a long rope.
Actually, that's a good idea! :D

A very very lively puppy could drag it along, then Anything Could Happen :?

-mount it to your bike as extra training ballast; several such locks will guarantee that you get extra-fit

- you can use several such D locks to make horse-shoe like things and play a new game; 'D-lock shackle quoits' (*)

(*) the entry qualification for this new sport is that you have been a victim of badly made locks, several times over.

cheers
