Sometimes your luck is in. My youngest daughter got married about 6y ago. The weather forecast was appalling. Wedding was scheduled for 3oc. At 2.30 the sun came out where the wedding was and the weather was lovely for the rest of the day. Everywhere else in Ireland it was apocalyptic except in this one small area..
If you knew her though and you were the weather, you'd be afraid to rain on her wedding day!

generally speaking if rain is forecast and doesn't happen, folk are less upset than if it is the other way round. This counts double on a bank holiday weekend. So weather forecasts often tend to be slightly pessimistic.

Note also that anytime they forecast 'showers', it means by definition they don't know exactly where they will happen.

These days, if in doubt, I check the local rainfall radar before going out on the bike; except for things like showers 'bubbling up' unexpectedly, you can usually be reasonably sure of the weather for the next couple of hours.

The sports field in my village is the venue for the Village Fete this afternoon. The forecast is decent. But the organisers must have taken their eyes off the forecasts yesterday when they erected numerous tents / gazebos and tables, most of which were uprooted and taken to one corner of the field by the overnight gales. They are dragging it all back now.
