... of Zonkie chains?
... of Zonkie chains?
I've just fitted a 9 speed chain to my rig.
The manufacturer is Zonkie. It seems to run quieter than the KMC it replaced which I suspect is down to its recessed pins.
I can't find any reviews for them though apart from on amazon.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of them.

Re: ... of Zonkie chains?
pictures of those chains sometimes show DGXMC marking. DGXMC also appears on 'SUMC' chains. I've used neither, so past that, I know nothing about them.
the little blue symbol that appears on all but two chains above is the DGXMC symbol.
I shall be interested to hear how your chain wears.
cheers

I bought mine from amazon. About £13.00.
I haven't seen any of the coloured ones though.

Re: ... of Zonkie chains?
Surprised you went for the mysterious zonkie vantage.
£13 isn't especially cheap.
Pretty sure I rarely pay that for a 9sp chain.

Re: ... of Zonkie chains?
It depends on which brand of chain you favour.
I like Campag chains.
Double the price, and I wouldn't mind betting that they would last double the mileage.

I had trouble finding a 9 speed KMC chain that was silver and didn't cost silly money. I think the cheapest was around £23. Same for SRAM chains.
9 speed stuff does seem to be unnecessarily expensive compared to 8 speed.
The zonkie really is very quiet though...and SHINY!

If it's still shiny you aren't riding enough
I don't believe in paying for shininess with chains.

If it's still shiny AND you are riding enough, you must be cleaning it and looking after it properly.
Check my shiny chains any time you want.

£6.99; no need to spend any more than this on a 9s chain?
If you want shiny the X9-93 model is available from about £11.

Re: ... of Zonkie chains?
Definitely not riding enough. Only 913 miles so far this year
I do keep the bike squeaky clean though.
The chain on previously was indeed an X9.73. Very dull looking though and according to my chain wear tool (I've heard these things aren't the best measure of wear), was at 0.75% after just under 2500 easy miles.
It may take a year or so to see how the zonkie fares.

seem to recall you have a particularly rigorous chain cleaning regime though mick.
After every ride or something?

Re: ... of Zonkie chains?
When they get dirty and need cleaning. It could be every ride, or even once a month.
If you do it frequently, it's easy and quick.
If you leave it too long, it's hard work and messy to do.
I've been cutting the grass in our large sloping back garden this morning.
Why would I leave it until it's long and thick?
Cut it frequently, and it's easy.

Well Brucey, I've just used my chain wear device (cyclo) and at 1490 miles as of today, the chain is at the 0.75% mark. Just.
