Postby Sgthomas » 1 Jul 2019, 11:12am

Does anyone know which front lowrider pannier racks fit 29" wheels?

Yes, Tubus are very good.
If beond your budget, I would say any rack that is fitted as 2 halves (left/right) would do,ie, one that does not have a bracing bar over the tyre.

If you have a front disc brake, you may need some DIY spacers to clear the brake caliper.

There are no such things as 29" wheels, they are 28"/700c with bigger tyres.

Some 'hoop' designs may clear your tyre, but its hard to be specific without the bike/tyre/rack in front of you. (usefully, Tubus have full dimension information on their website which may help)

Otherwise you are looking at 3 point fixing, separate racks which you may have some fun fitting if the forks aren't set up for them, not impossible but maybe more involved.
Convention? what's that then?

True if we consider bead seat diameter but misleading for this context, where we are concerned with the overall diameter of the tyre.

Anyway, seems to be some good advice in this thread.

The Tubus Tara Technical Drawing (PDF here) say the standard model will fit a 50mm/2" tyre (on a 700C/28"/29", i.e. 622mm BSD, rim). The Big Apple version will fit a 60mm/2.4" tyre.

Personally I wouldn't use a front rack that didn't have both sides joined together with a hoop (or a top platform). IMHO the Tara is an excellent rack.
