Which Adventure Bike - for mostly on road ?

Postby gazza2 » 2 Aug 2019, 12:40pm

Hi I ride fatbikes and have one of them with drop bars and 2x when I ride with a group of road bikers but am going to buy a bike dedicated to ride with them. I want a robust bike, I see potholes at the last minute !! I like the two below which seem similar just wanted some views on which one of them. I do like the extra brakes on the Calibre dark peak one.

Calibre Dark Peak

or
Boardman ADV 8.8

Both classed as adventure bike but will be on the road mostly although only riding 30 miles ish one a week.

Of the two the Boardman. a) Its regarded as a decent brand if you resell whereas the other is seen as a cheapy. b) Better brakes on the Boardman. The Lyras on the Calibre are horrible.
However there are plenty out there of a similar ilk. Planet X for example do a bunch and pick the right time (they are always changing offers) and you can get a bargain.cs.
If it's really mostly road don't get hng up on tyre size etc.
Finally have a look if you can and compare all spe

Also consider a vodoo massara also from Halfords strongly built and good value. Probably not as good a ride as the boardman tbh but tough as old boots frame wise.
