Compare the girl, the hat, the jacket, the bike except for the strange artistry around the front brake, even down to the gloves, with the view we've discussed, ostensibly from the Dutch Raleigh catalogue, and aren't they the same - only the pose and location different?

I'd guess (but not with any real knowledge) that the airplane is later than 1922 though.

That's a good post kyle - I tried to find "Raleigh Girl - Mabel" but the search-engine couldn't find anything. One of the (so called associated) sites that came up was a dating site with single girls called Mabel.

And no - I didn't click on it

I thought they were all (blonde and) called Olga!

Mabel was still a popular girl's name in the UK in the 1920s (and very possibly in Holland, who knows?).

As for the monoplane in the illustration, maybe a Fokker (Fokker being Dutch), or maybe not - it's very distinctive - perhaps aviation enthusiasts might know?

This thread - which is absolutely brilliant - demonstrates (imv) just how nostalgic cyclists are. For all the vast array of modern cycling technology available, there appears to be a remarkable hankering for the past.

Simpler, gentler times? If you had the means, that is, then and now.
