Spa Nidd Open Saddle - anyone tried one?

Post by bikepacker »

Spa have a Nidd saddle with a cut-out listed on their website I was wondering if anyone had tried one. It looks similar to the B17 Imperial and I know the leather on the Nidd is tougher than Brooks but other thoughts would be welcome.
There is your way. There is my way. But there is no "the way".

I took a Stanley knife to a Nidd to make a similar cutout. This reduced the unyielding rock-like feel a little and without the lace I found it comfortable right from the beginning. Some years later it got very wet* and sagged a little but adding the lace back has restored it. My cutout is slightly longer and narrower, I think, but the Spa one looks a good shape too.

*This was a four-hour ride in constant heavy rain, wearing shorts with foam padding so that the pad was like a saturated bath sponge. Although I'd put dressing on the cut edges I suspect that water got in between the layers? Wearing a cape would have been a good idea, but I know now to put a plastic bag on the saddle if the weather is as bad again.

ETA I'm female.
