Survey about user requirements for a sports/cycling water bottle

Postby Graham » 19 Dec 2019, 8:59am

Is anyone interested in responding to this survey, originating from a Masters student in Denmark ?

My project is not a Ph.D., but merely a master thesis, about product and production.
It narrows to sports water bottles that fit into a bicycle bottle cage.

In the first part I examine user's requirements for the product,
and try to formulate product specifications from them.
In the second part of the project, I design a production setup
suited to making the water bottle that the users required.

The questionnaire is a step in the first part,
and I have made both a Danish and an English version, in order to get more replys.
Studying the water bottle, I have identified 35 properties of the product,
and formulated questions about those properties that users can provide usable feedback about.
These questions make up the questionnare.

He has posted this over on the roadcc forum. I suggested he buys a bottle from a shop and copies it. 99% of the time a normal bottle is perfect. For most of us it's perfect all of the time.

No need for a survey. Just buy an Elite water bottle, and an Elite cage. Try to improve on that, if you can.

To an extent I'm more than happy to help such an individual out (NB. And have responded in a positive manner).

Though have to admit I wouldn't dream of buying a sports/cycling bottle. The Badoit bottles I bought, probably 12-24 months ago are more than sufficient! (NB. Though a French tour or similar may be required soon, given Badoit no longer seems to be stocked in the UK :( )

Reading past threads about bacteria in the nozzles and people's views in carrying a drinking bottle on a third boss below the down tube, it seems to me that many touring cyclists are finding there is a lot of scope for improvement with the average bottle.

At this time of year I often use a hot water bottle.

Filled with coffee and stuffed up my jumper to keep the dank out. Then drunk.

Happy days.
