How was Cycling 2019 for you?

Post by David9694 »

Not as good as 2018 when I had the whole summer off and got out most days. I’ve been working most of the year and not got out as much as I’d have liked. Have it been fortunate enough to include much cycle commuting either.

So the pedals are still turning, but need to pick it up again in 2020!

Complications with a prosthetic hip has made this year probably my worst in forty years. That is not a title easy to win. Nevertheless Dr. Bike has given me much health and pleasure over the years, and I am determined 2020 will be better than 2019, if I can swing my leg over a top tube.

For the first nine months of 2019 I was retired and really didn't make the most of it. For the last three months I've been part-time and have really enjoyed commuting the 10-miles each way. Overall though, not the greatest year for mileage and I'll only just get to 5000km.

Desperate for a drier 2020!

A return to full fitness and reasonable health after health problems of late 2017 and early 2018. I managed 6000 miles this year which is up amongst my best of recent years. I retired from work this year, which doesn’t necessarily mean riding more but I can now pick and choose when I ride. We also bought a campervan this year and have used it to explore parts of the UK. We go away for for a few days at a time, park up and then ride our bikes, exploring the locality.

Done more utility miles and fewer leisure. They've all been good miles.

By far the worst year for years for me.
Managed only 1,471miles, should be double that - or more.

Seems like I had other things to do, plus the weather in the latter second half of the year wasn't great either.
Not turned a pedal since Dec 19th.

I stopped recording speeds and milage some years ago. Not a great year of cycling for me. Looking after my Mrs with her dementia meant I couldnt get out as much as I would like. The highlight was getting an electric bike to tackle the very steep Devon Hills with ease and roaming further and faster on two wheels. Time to shed some bikes....

Starting the year fearful I might have Ovarian cancer (not as it happens just a mahoosive cyst), a major op, it's been a long slog back to some sort fitness.

I was well on the way to getting into 200k form again when the cardiologist sideswiped me with beta-blockers "just in case". By the time I persuaded my GP to withdraw them the summer was long gone and I was in the depths of one of the worst depressions I've had for years. Still struggling to get out of it. I'm currently 11 km short of 5000 and if I can get out tomorrow morning I'll make it. I had hoped to be a couple of thou further.

That happened to my daughter last year. She was weak for a while but came through it well. Good luck!

Not the best of years. Only 2300 miles. A lot to do with the weather such as a very windy and wet days. Has this been one of the windiest years. ?
Even on sunny days we seemed to have had strong winds (20+ MPH).
Had 4 punctures this year, one of which was a snake-bite and the others thorns.
Best ride of the year was C2C with the Wimps group.

Currently on 5 different tablets for high blood pressure and had attacks of vertigo. :(

End of year looks to be ending on a high as our youngest daughter is getting married next week. :D

I’m well down on the last couple of year’s mileages. But that was deliberate.

I’ve enjoyed it a bit lot more though.
