London to Hastings route

Not sure if this it the right page for routes... Anyway, like it says in the title, I'm interested in riding from London to Hastings soon and wondered if there are any recommendations for routes. From Google maps it looks like there are some pretty major hills, I've done London to Brighton a few times so guessing maybe it's similar in that respect. Anything avoiding too much traffic and with the possibility of a few pit stops would be good though

I always start planning routes with OS maps, available on Streetmap.co.uk

Google maps are pretty hopeless for planning cycling, IMHO

Where in LONDON are you starting eg nearest railway station will do

I'm not sure. I'm based in Twickenham, so not sure if I'll head out from there or get a train to the SE edge of London and start there somewhere. Maybe Croydon or Sevenoaks

I think London to Hastings is quite a challenge to find a good route. London to Eastbourne might be easier.

Well once you start to get near Eastbourne (but not as far as) the route is then essentially flat to Hastings - which is rather welcome for the final run in after the earlier climbs.

It works as I rode it last summer.

Starts in Peckham, SE London - if you wanted to train it more at the start it passes close to stations at:

Eden Park
West Wickham
not far from Hever station if you really wanted to cheat

Nice bike friendly spoons in Eastbourne and Bexhill

When I rode it I rode back to Eastbourne (basically flat) as you can often get cheap and pretty fast trains back from Eastbourne to London if you book ahead.
