Help identify bike
Help identify bike
Is anyone able to identify the model ?
Re: Help identify bike
it is a (not top end) Peugeot road bike from the 1980s, but with a mixture of equipment.. The photo is far from clear but the equipment is not all 1980s; for example the stem looks older, and the rear derailleur might be too. But the frame appears to be Peugeot's internally lugged variety, which normally comes with a 24mm seat pin. These frames were only made after a certain date and the frame number ought to tell you more about this one. There will also be date marks on the hubs, cranks and brakes most probably.
The tubing used in these framesets varied from pretty nasty gas pipe to Reynolds 501. Amazingly Peugeot spent money paying Reynolds to make special 501 tubes to work with their internal lugs and daft seat pin size.... The seat tube often has an obvious change in external diameter just below the seat clamp. I don't think it is the cheapest variant because it appears to have Simplex rear dropouts, which the cheapest ones definitely didn't have. If you strip all the parts off the frame and weight it, you might be able to find out which it is.
BTW the seat pin appears to be fitted the wrong way round; it should be turned 180 degrees and the saddle refitted. With a bit of sorting out it could be a nice enough bike to ride.
cheers

Re: Help identify bike
Thanks Brucey, frame number isY003 06824.
Re: Help identify bike
https://mrvelo.weebly.com/peugeot.html and other sources suggest that the frame number on this era of Peugeot isn't a reliable identifier of manufacturing date. However finding another bike with a similar frame number and a known provenance is, so you might have some luck that way.
