GPS pinger

Post by Tinnishill »

Can anybody point me to either a GPS device or phone app which gives an audio ping when the user exceeds a preset speed ? I know that motor vehicle satnavs can beep when exceeding the speed limit, but I’m looking for one optimised for runners and cyclists ( I need it for both) .

At the moment I am using a wrist mounted Garmin Foretrex unit which displays current speed in big friendly numbers, but it’s a bit of a pain to be constantly glancing at it instead of where I’m going.

I’ve done the G@@gle thing, but it just throws up a lot of sales babble for unwanted extra features.

Cheers.

The Garmin Forerunner 10 seems to do what you want:

Understanding Virtual Pacer on the Forerunner 10
Virtual Pacer is a training tool designed to help improve the running time by encouraging running at a set pace. To turn on Virtual Pacer or to edit the set pace:

Select Run Options by pressing Down button
Select Virtual Pacer
If turned off, select Turn On
Select Edit Pace to set appropriate pace
The Forerunner 10 will now provide an alert when the pace is +/- 5 seconds from the set pace. Once turned on, the alert will be used for every workout unless the Virtual Pacer setting is turned off.

Once the timer is started for a workout, the set pace cannot be changed.

For apps, have you tried looking for virtual runner or virtual pacer?
