Plus a visor that absorbs the sweat, such as this https://www.haloheadbanduk.com/product/halo-visorband/

Never mind the visor, I need a link for this genuinely non-greasy sunscreen. I've tried a lot of them, all claiming to be "non-greasy", and all of them were so greasy I could have lubed my bike chain with them.

The trouble I find with sunscreen is not only is greasy but when it's really hot I sweat so much I'd have to keep applying every hour or so.OK on short rides but a pain if on longer rides.I've had the old Tiger stripes more than once when forgetting to reapply.

I put a single sheet of soft toilet tissue on the bald patch - costs virtually nothing, I don't have to be bothered with keeping it safe, very available, and about as cool as you can find.

I either try to keep it in place on my head whilst I put the helmet on, or lay it in the appropriate place in the helmet and bob my head down to put the helmet on. Honestly, it's practical, it works, it's cheap, no need for any specialist shop, doesn't need cleaning and available in white........or a variety of pastel shades if that's your thing.

No, that's...
I mean it's...
no.
Just no.

It's serves me OK though - it works! 8) 8) 8)
There are also moments when high-factor sun-protector cream is appropriate though - keeps the piece of tissue in place.........!
And maybe two thicknesses of tissue!

Maybe depends on your interpretation of 'greasy' I suppose, but this is one I like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ambre-Solaire- ... B000RO0OIC
Riemann P20 is pretty good too, but expensive https://www.chemist-4-u.com/riemann-p20 ... high-100ml

I generally use a cycling cap under my helmet and tip water on it in hot weather. I have recently brought a cap from Chapeau and the range is great and a choice of sizes. Works for me.

Only briefly (!) as I tugs it on. Well, and when I takes it off again (never when riding the bike, though).

Mind, I do recall a foolish phase of fashion many years ago when lads would pull up their jersey over their face whilst cycling along. What this was supposed to signify viz-a-viz their cycling prowess, I know not.

OP
Perhaps stating the obvious:
Don't wear a helmet.

Cycling Bandana for me, good for cold and hot weather, also means your helmet doesn't feel all horrible cold and soggy when you put it back on after a stop in cold weather. Also protects the back of the neck somewhat from sunburn.

Wow lots of suggestions thanks! My problem with casquettes is I feel like they are only for ‘proper’ cyclists who have drop bars and bikes > £1000. I’d feel like a fraud on my hybrid or 20 year old cheap mountain bike!

Sorry not going to did that! Particularly as my son has just learnt to ride, I want to set a good example.

I don’t understand this, I’m assuming it’s a safety issue? But what’s the problem with something very thin like a buff or casquette?

I didn’t think my wife would like it but actually she’s got us used to it quickly. It’s certainly better than the nutty professor look when I let the sides grow out a bit much!

I think it defeats the retention strap system on some, so the helmet can slide around in a fall and make injuries worse. Check the manual whether yours is one. Some brands (the loathsome Specialized for one I think) even warn against big hair (I guess their pads need to touch skin), while some others sell specially-designed head covers to use under theirs!

I wear a legionnaires hat with chin strap sometimes. Sheldon Brown advocated train engineers hats because they're designed to stay on your head in a headwind, unlike baseball caps which are designed to fly off if you run forwards looking up, but I've not tried one.

For the past few days(**funnily enough it coincides with my contribution to this thread**)I've been getting an advert on Instagram for a "Cooling Microfibre cap" that claims to keep your head cooler by up to 30F?!It's black and looks much like any other "microfibre" cap so I can't see why this one would be any different but hey it's half price at $13.95!!!!Judging by the many, many comments on Instagram I suspect they will sell 1000s.

Very much off topic eh?

I don't use social media on any of my devices.
Mrs Mick F uses FaceBook on her phone and on her laptop.
If I search for something online, or click on links on here about stuff, within a day, she'll be getting adverts about what I've been looking at.
Been happening a couple of years, she reckons. I think it's less, but if she says it is, it is!
Either way, the only thing we share, is our WiFi ....... and she gets adverts on FB for what I've been looking at.

Mick, I seem to remember you had some imessage issues at one time.
Perhaps a shared apple id?
And behind all that are those numbers that you had another issue with from a second hand phone- being recognised as the previous owner.
It's a blooming minefield!!

The phone that was recognised by a public WiFi in a pub, bit the dust after I had in a pocket in my overalls and they went in the wash.
The replacement was also secondhand, and it's replacement too.
The iMessage stuff has completely gone out of my brain. I can't even remember what the issue was.

We have different AppleIDs, but part of the ID is part of your registered eMail address.
This isn't anything to do with it though, as it doesn't matter if you're logged on or not. Mrs Mick F is rarely logged onto her AppleID and she keeps having to ask me what it is if she needs it.

If I search for something random this afternoon, lets see how long it is before she gets an ad for it on FB.
I think it's all to do with our ISP as we are both on the same one.

Another way to check, is for me to be away from home using data to search for something. Would she still get an advert? Somehow, I doubt it.

As for the OP .......
It was blisteringly hot sunshine on my ride this morning. Temp was showing at 23degC on my Garmin Montana via my Tempe fitted in the shade under my saddle pouch.
I was wearing a cycle cap, very much like the FW Holdsworths ones linked above.
No helmet! :D
