A problem with my cycle computers

Postby Davobailo » 22 Jun 2020, 11:55am

For some strange reason two of my cycle computers on each bike, (Dawes
Galaxy and Specialized Roubaix), have malfunctioned. One is an XLC Fahrrad
computer for the Dawes, the other, a Halfords 12 function cycle computer
for the Specialized. I have replaced the batteries in both computers and
likewise checked the wiring, magnet and sensor on both bikes and everything
appears to be intact. I have also set the wheel sizes and cleaned all
surfaces.

The computers themselves are OK, for I have swapped the XLC to a third
bike, (Look), where the operation works fine. What is more, it is only the
speed indicator that doesn't work on the Dawes. Although what appears to be
the Bike 1 or Bike 2 option indicator, this registers with the spinning of
the wheel' (I think this indicates revolutions)' which is in place of the
speedometer.

As the fittings are different with the Halfords computer, I am unable to
test this on another bike. However, when pressing the mode button every
option works, (likewise with the XLC).

The situation is a mystery. What can you suggest could be the problem?

Sometimes the magnets on the spokes move over time so a quick check of magnet/sensor alignment may be worthwhile.

For each of them:

Is it wired or wireless?

Does the display come on, and can you go through the settings. (I think that's "Yes".)

Have you done a hard reset?

How close is the sensor to the magnet? (As above.)

Fitted any lights recently? I have had LED lights interfere with wireless computers a few times now.
