Accurate method of micro adjustment to saddle height?

Postby LittleGreyCat » 23 Jun 2020, 1:15pm

Unless you have a seat post with a scale etched into it (like a ruler) it seems very difficult to remember exactly where the post was before you released the clamp.
If you want to go up slightly I suppose you could use tape to mark the position and then move up in small increments, but how do you measure if you want to go down in small increments?

It feels as though there should be a neat solution but a quick search doesn't find anything.

Perhaps a collar that clamps on?
Set a bit high before dropping the post, set flush when raising the post?

Perhaps there isn't enough demand.

Hi,
If you make a mark on the saddle rail next to the clamp you can tell if it's moved or if you want to move it forward and aft, if The saddle rail is black Tippex pen is ideal, be warned the copies (pound shop) are not indelible and wash off with water.
On saddle height I found the easiest way to gauge up and down if you want to move it is to use a retracting rule, hang the end off the front of the saddle rail next to the clamp then Measure to the centre of the bottom bracket spindle.
Or you could simply measure from the underneath of the front of the nose of the saddle to the top of the frame top tube.
It's easier going up isn't it you can just make a mark on the seat pillar or use a piece of tape.

Could you not use the same bit of tape ?
Stick it on 20mm above, then reduce to 19, 18, 17, etc etc

Simply put the ring of tape at eg 10 or 20 mm above the clamp. Then you can measure the gap for upward or downward adjustment.

Saddle height is not an absolute IME unless the bars are raised with it. Leave the bars where they are and it can become necessary to alter the angle of the saddle to avoid pressure points. Alter the saddle angle and it affects the height of it.

Add insoles to your shoes?
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

It's $150!! and you'll use it a few times a year, maybe once and never again.

On another thread someone is rueing the cost of BBs at £23!
