Any experiences with a carbon framed Merida ( or Merida in general )

Hi i am looking at buying my first ever road bike to replace my 10 year old Bianchi hybrid and was only really looking at spending around £1000 but then i came across the Merida which is in the link below.

seeing as it's a carbon frame and is reduced in price maybe it might be worth spending the extra seeing as i would get it on interest free over 2 years

Has anyone got any experience with the Merida brand?

Perfectly good big name maker. Much of a muchness with others similar. Best check that the spec can't be bettered for the price or price less on another bike. Also check BB. It may be press fit and they can creak if not set up perfectly and a mail order bike is hard to send back to fix.
Should ride nicely.
Worth checking if the same frame is used with a higher spec bike. Nothing definite but can give an indication of value. Big UK shops/makers may match this. EG Ribble, Planet X

Merida is the company behind Specialized and is the second biggest bicycle manufacturer in the world, with Giant ahead of them. They started out by building bikes for well established companies like Raleigh and GT before launching their own brand. They build bikes in Tawain and have their offices in Germany. Good reputation with wide range of bike types and price levels.

That's an interesting review on the bike and maybe not for me if it's too firm a ride especially for that price.

Possibly perhaps you want something a little more comfortable.

I've a Carbon Fibre Merida 29er. Very good in every respect.

Would a Boardman carbon team bike be ok for around £500-£600?

Thanks James gutted as just saw that one sold on evilbay a couple weeks ago 30 miles from me in excellent condition for £420 whereas now they all seem to be around 550-650 and they are much further away too.

I've got a Merida Scultura. It's a very nice Carbon bike IMHO. As has been said above, Merida are the company behind Specialized, so not exactly a small player.

They also make the bikes for the World Tour team, "Team Bahrain McLaren". I believe the Reacto is one of the pro frame designs.
