Spa Elan frame vs Trek FX2 2018 geometry?

Post by newtotouring »

Hello,

To keep it simple, I see Spa now have the steel 725 framed Elan for sale and for sizing considerations I was wondering how comparable it is with my alloy workhorse, commuter machine of 2 years.

https://geometrygeeks.bike/compare/trek ... n-2017-54/

If I didn't buy Spa Elan 725 I would be in the market for a Thorn Mk4 Audax or a Thorn Club Tour.

All opinions gratefully received.

Geometry Geeks! what a brilliant name, and the site looks useful as well.
I'm much more of a bike geek than a computer geek, so I'll ask rather than try for myself....is it simply a comparison tool, or will it do stuff like work out trail, reach/stack from the basic numbers? Who enters the numbers?

As for your question, I think the main difference between the 2 bikes is the saddle will go back about 10mm further on the Spa, using the same saddle/seatpost. This may or may not be important to you!
If you have the Spa carbon fork, you are limited to 30mm of spacers; however the stack is almost 14mm higher on the Spa, so unless Trek left the steerer unusually long, the bars will go higher on the Spa, and you might want a stem one size longer as the Spa reach is shorter.
