Good quality cycling cap?

I have a very cheap cycling cap with no padding or anything round the rim.
It hurts.

I think I need one with a soft rim in XL which doesn't cost a fortune because logo.

Any recommendations?

I have their lightweight summer caps which I've been using for 3 or 4 years now. They are soft and the band is more stretchy than the standard cotton caps that I also use. I have not tried their winter versions.

A cycling cap typically has a smaller peak which can be flipped up out of the way.
Often with a sponsor's logo underneath so that when flipped up you are a walking advert.
Very popular head gear before helmets became a thing on TdF, for example.

I am trying to sort out the issue where if I get right down on the drops the peak of a standard baseball cap obscures my vision.

I think you are referring to what was once known as a massed-start cap.

Like so much cycling stuff, all manner of reasons for using them was thought up. The basic reason in the paid ranks was to get the sponsor's name in every mug shot. Nowadays, it's a helmet during the racing and a baseball-type cap with a peak the size of a billboard for the sponsors' publicity so massed-start caps are no longer in demand.

A reason I don't use my summer Walz caps at any other time of year is that the peak is noticeably smaller than on my other caps. I tilt my head to use the peak to block oncoming headlights in the dark lanes and the Walz peak is not really up to it, my Assos one being much larger but nowhere near the baseball cap dimensions.

Seconding Walz caps as being good quality; I'm particularly fond of their wool ones for cooler weather. Their regular caps are cotton/poly and come in S/M and L/XL; not particularly cheap, though I've had mine for years and they still look pretty much new.

I like my Rapha caps as they're 100% cotton (or they may have a small percentage of elasthane for stretch), and I like the cut; they used to come in S/M/L, but now come in S/M and M/L only, and of course you're paying the Rapha tax (though they can usually be picked up cheaper in the sales).

I must say that the one I linked was indeed too big, and needed adjusting smaller.
The other three, I couldn't find easily enough on a quick Google for the link, and they didn't need any tweaking at all, because I bought the small size.

So very good point, and I should have made it.

They're designed to fly off as you run to catch the ball, which is not what you want while cycling!

I'd like a longer peak than a cycling cap. Does anyone know how "newsboy" hats behave in high winds?
