It's the same the whole world over
It's the poor what gets the blame
It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

That's three, no more, no less. Just because they're cheap and you can hold you finger on a key to get a long line of them, doesn't mean you should.
*I am aware there are exceptions to this, but they're not relevant to the posts above or the thread title.

Yes, I double spaced when I wrote it but it defaulted to single space when it was posted.

Re: Brooks etc.....
Clearly spelling and grammar standards have diminished but I would never call out anyone contributing to a forum for example. However I do get annoyed with journalists who can't spell, use punctuation or proper grammar. Journalists are setting an example as professionals and if their example is a bad one it will followed. I get most of my news from the BBC, either their website or television news. I am appalled by some copy. Commas where they are not needed and no commas where they should be. And there's my pet hate, using stood and sat in place of standing and sitting.
Rant over.

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Indeed, well, not unless it was inadvertently amusing, which is fun, or they call out other others' spelling or punctuation. Then their posts become fair game

Sometimes, because of ambiguous grammar, syntax and punctuation, meaning is not clear. Bad spelling is just annoying but not usually unclear.Bonefishblues wrote: ↑6 Jul 2021, 8:33amIndeed, well, not unless it was inadvertently amusing, which is fun, or they call out other others' spelling or punctuation. Re: Brooks etc.....
The traditional line is that poor spelling is a sign of being unread, in that you cannot read lots of novels without absorbing spelling. One weakness in that is that somebody can have vast amounts of specialist knowledge without having so much as touched a novel and on somewhere like a cycling forum that knowledge is often a lot more important than familiarity with Shakespeare (whose published works are full of errors anyway.)
If there's truly some ambiguity, it's always possible to ask politely for clarification.
