I use the same bag and mount on my Brompton for commuting (except my bag is red). Mounted facing backwards because the normal Brompton bags take up the space at the front. The Ortlieb bag is a sort of hand bag for wallet, keys, etc.
I often think of my bar bag as my bike's glove compartment.

That works well for many of us. Some crucial points, may of which are covered upthread:
• Keeping valuables in the bar bag, and always taking them with you
• Where do navigation gadgets and computers and headlamps go if you have a non-tiny bar bag
• Spacers and preferred fitting brackets.
