Bike Hike website

Post by gbnz »

Anyone know whether the Bike Hike website is down temporarily or whether it's........

Haven't been able to access it for a few days, merely wondering if it's now offline or simply having temporary issues (NB. The site appears, but the map area is BLANK. Of little use!)

Just tried on 3 different browsers and I agree that the map is blank.
The site itself appears up and running but if I debug it there's an error on the map page:
Uncaught ReferenceError: GlocalSearch is not defined <anonymous> https://www.bikehike.co.uk/scripts/mapPack.js:129
so perhaps they have done an update and not tested properly.

Its done this before, they're still taking donations though

Perhaps the meter needs topping up.

Me too.
I emailed the chap last time.

Out riding the other day and created my routes with Plotaroute.
I don't actually like it, but it works.

1. It's not simple or quick.
2. With BikeHikeUK, you can create far quicker as well as see the OS map at the same time and a profile of the hills too if you want on the same screen.
3. With PaR, you open up the site and it asks you to allow them to use your location ........ and it doesn't work.
4. You are given a whole world map to zoom into where you want to create a route, not just the UK.
5. This is the most important to me. ............. You can't load a pre-made GPX into it.

The simplicity of BikeHikeUk wins hands down.

It's working for me this morning. All the links to google options seem to have been taken off, so I'm guessing it was down to remove those elements.

Just tried.

The first time the map on the left was blank, as in the first post.

The second time I got this:

"This page can't load Google Maps correctly"

Safari on macOS.

Just to resurrect this thread.
BikeHikeUK works well and perfectly.

You open the the website and have to agree that the Google Maps can't do it correctly, then off you go.
MacOS Safari and any operating system you want, and even on a PC or a mobile phone.

This is the route I've just created showing my route from home to school in the 60s.

When I triy to load Bikehike on my iPhone, I gee the same result. However when I clicked 'OK' it was...ok, and the map showing was the usual OSM. On my Windows PC it goes straight to OSM without any error messages.

I find Bikehike now won't load any maps - the website still exists, but has lost all functionality. How can I live without it?

Are you having a "ASI administrator" won't allow it, it something of that sort coming up?

It was fine a few days back, I'd assumed it was my temporary WI FI connection that was causing the problem.
