Bikehike down?
Re: Bikehike down?
I can't get it to work. .... Tried yesterday and today. ... I'm no longer getting the 'API Key' message, so something has changed.
The 'Course Creator' page comes up but both map boxes are empty except for the OS logo!

Re: Bikehike down?
Just noticed it has 1:25k OS maps. It never used to did it?
Re: Bikehike down?
You've always been able to zoom in and out and different scales.
Just checked, and it's still the same as it always has.

Re: Bikehike down?
I must be thinking of some other site then. My recollection is that while you could zoom in, the actual map didn't go beyond the 1:50k style (red footpaths etc).
Re: Bikehike down?
You may be right ... my knowledge/memory of the different scales isn't great, but the HIGHEST zoom factor used to take you to non-OS streetmap data (i.e. no contours etc), not sure the source?
Anyway, what I'm saying is that it now looks different, probably for the better

Re: Bikehike down?
The previous API which Bikehike used, OS OpenSpace had 1:50k Landranger, and then if you zoomed in a bit more, you got "OS Street View" (not to be confused with Google StreetView) which was a fairly plain streetmap with houses and street names, but no contours.
With the new API, you get 1:50k Landranger and then 1:25k Explorer. So it's a definite improvement.

Re: Bikehike down?
I STILL couldn't get it to work despite the above posts. So I tried opening it in the AVAST browser, rather than in Chrome, my default.
Great! It works in Avast!!
Now I can get on with planning next weeks trip. Planning with other map progs felt like walking with a sprained ankle!

Re: Bikehike down?
I noticed this a few days ago, and forgot that this thread existed ........ had I remembered, I'd have put an update on.
Excellent news, and it works well again.

Re: Bikehike down?
Just donated. Great route planner.
Re: Bikehike down?
+ 1. Though just noticed this morning on "thinking" about a route, that at a certain magnification, villages of 2000-4000 people are shown, whilst the towns of 98000 which I'd use to "place" myself and would need access to in respect to trains, weren't apparent.
