Cycling clothing - where to buy

In my "larger" days I looked a lot at Fat Lad at the Back, but since I was in weight loss mode, having "FLAB" emblazoned across my backside was one message I was keen to avoid (and they do insist on branding pretty much everything that way).

They actually took their idea for cycle clothing on Dragon's Den some years back, and one of the dragons said exactly the same thing about the company name and branding, and IIRC that's largely why the business never got any backing.

I've notice that in my Decathlon store the end of the line rail often has a number of items marked as XXL or even XXXL.
I assume from this they carry these sizes in their range.

I used to find in my local GO that the only sizes they appeared to carry were XS or XL.

Is that because the small and large, and particularly the medium sizes, sell out very quickly because they're the most popular?
The only exception that I've found is M&S who do seem to carry all sizes all the time.
However, how many vests and pairs of underpants do we need?
I think it'd be good if M&S sold decent,practical cycling togs.

I guess that is it, although GO do as so many discount retailers and advertise reductions to get you through the door. I have received notification in my email about items and been at the store by 9.00am and they have been sold out. Very suspicious.

You will pay through the nose for any specialist cycling clothing. T-shirt and tracksuit bottoms are all you need, with extra layers according to the weather.

Last time I looked they had "slealth" versions of stuff without obvious logos.

I don't like cotton t shirts too sweaty!

Shorts only last a year or two before they start to get translucent around the bottom

I only have that problem with some Assos bib shorts and have to wear a long base layer to ensure modesty.
However, I have never had the problem with my favourite Lusso bibs, which have been worn far more. One pair of Progel are about 7 years old and are still wearable, if a little faded, though not translucent. I wear them under my winter tights.
Because Lusso are made in Manchester they can be contacted to ask for advice. I have no connection with them but did get some legs adjusted a bit to fit my legs better and they were very helpful. I have a 38" bottom and medium fits best, if that's any help. If you like a more relaxed fit, I do find my older Large shorts still work OK too.
